If you were to come into our classroom, you
would be able to see instantly how different it is to a
traditional nursery class.
- Children all work in the classroom
together - there is no grouping into ages. Younger
children learn from their peers and the older children
are encouraged to look after the younger ones and thus
gain a sense of responsibility. There is a feeling of 'family'
in the classroom.
- The materials used to teach reading,
writing, mathematics, geography, science, music and
cultural studies are all unique to the Montessori
classroom.
- Children are welcome to choose what
material they want to work with and encouraged to work at
their own pace.
- We do not work to a timetable.
- The adult's task is to open new doors
and broaden the child's horizon, and maximize the amount
each child can do for him/herself.
- All teaching is done on a one to one
basis.
